After travelling to Salvador de Bahia we fell in love with the Cashew Fruit. Yes the fruit! Who would have known there is a fruit attached to the nut (or the other way round). Well the majority of Brazilian perhaps and millions of Indians that consume it. For everyone else it’s a revelation such a thing exists.
The nut is way more common around the world but in many tropical countries, the Cashew Fruit is a delicious ingredient. Along with the nutmeg/mace it is one of the few ingredients that have two edible elements to it. By the way the cashew nut cannot be eaten straight from the tree. It is toxic unless treated. Yes that is wy it’s so expensive. Many processes are needed to remove the toxicity before it appears in markets around the world looking pristine and delicious.
Having said all this who wouldn’t want a cushion with the stunning cashew fruit/nut on it? Any visitor to the coasts of Brazil will have great reminders of that time they tried it for the first time and thought how the f*** did I get this age without knowing where the cashew nut comes from.
